Connect with an employer (in-person)
Learn how booth QR connections work and what happens after you connect.
Goal
Connect with employers at an in-person fair, join booth queues, share a resume, and keep track of who you met.
When to use this
Use this workflow during an in-person fair when you want to:
- Join an employer’s booth queue by scanning a QR code
- Share your name, email, and resume with specific employers you choose
- See your connection status (queue number, meeting progress, resume status)
- Leave a private note for yourself after speaking with an employer
- Provide anonymous feedback about your experience to the organizer
Helpful tip before you arrive
Try to arrive with Withe already signed in on the device you plan to use at the fair (usually your phone).
Many fairs have an entry check-in QR code. If you scan it while signed in, you may be checked in automatically. If you are not signed in, you may be asked to sign in or register first.
If there is no entry check-in, that is okay. Scanning a booth QR code can also prompt sign-in, then connect you to the employer.
Step-by-step: Connect with an employer booth
1) Scan the booth QR code
- At the employer’s booth, scan their QR code using your phone camera.
- If you are not signed in, follow the prompts to sign in (or register).
- If you are already signed in, you will be connected to that employer and added to their queue.
After you scan, you will see a simple checklist showing where you are in the process, for example:
- Scan the booth (completed)
- Meet the hiring manager (next step)
- Upload resume (if not already uploaded)

2) The employer connects with you
When a hiring manager is ready, they will connect with you from their booth view. On your side, your connection updates to show that you met with a hiring manager.
3) Add a private note for yourself (optional)
After the conversation, you can open your connection details and write a note for yourself.
These notes are only visible to you.
About your connection: you can save private notes for yourself (only visible to you).
4) After the conversation: Anonymous feedback
After your conversation, you may be prompted to leave anonymous feedback about your experience. This feedback is shared with the organizer to help them understand how employer interactions went.
5) Scan the next booth and repeat the process
Head over to the next employer that you’re interested in and scan their QR code using your phone camera.
If you cannot scan the QR code
If you do not have wifi or cannot scan the QR code, the employer may share a booth connection form or offer to create a connection on their side instead.
- Share your first name, last name, and email.
- Submit the form.
Withe will follow up by email so you can upload your resume and complete the connection.
Privacy and who receives your information
- Your name, email, and resume are shared only with employers you choose to connect with (for example, by scanning their booth QR code or submitting their booth connection form).
- Employers you do not connect with will not receive your resume or contact details.
- Your personal notes are private to you.
- Feedback is shared anonymously with the organizer.
What gets saved to your profile
Your connections are saved so you can review them later, including:
- Which booths you connected with
- Your private notes for each connection
- Your resume upload status (when applicable)
This makes it easy to remember who you spoke with and follow up after the fair.
Common questions
Do I need to check in before visiting booths?
Not always. Some fairs have an entry check-in QR code, but even if you skip check-in, scanning a booth QR code will still check you in and connect you to that employer.
Will scanning a booth QR code automatically put me in the queue?
Yes, if you are signed in. If you are not signed in, you will be prompted to sign in or register first.
Who can see my private notes?
Only you. Employers and organizers cannot see your private notes.
Which employers receive my resume?
Only employers you actively connect with (scan their booth QR code, join their queue, or submit their booth connection form).
Troubleshooting
“I scanned the QR code but nothing happened.”
Try these quick fixes:
- Make sure you are signed in on the same device you are scanning with
- Check your internet connection (cell data or wifi)
- Scan again and follow any sign-in prompts
If it still does not work, ask the employer for the booth connection form link.
“I do not have wifi at the venue.”
Use one of these options:
- Use cell data (if available)
- Ask the employer for the booth connection form
- If needed, ask the employer to manually capture your info at the booth (name + email) so you can upload your resume later
